Renewable energy is growing rapidly, creating thousands of jobs, reducing pollution, tapping American energy sources, and helping consumers and rural Americans.

But the renewable energy industry is still young. To capture its long-term promise we need to provide a stable and nurturing environment, through long-term government policies. A national Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) is one such policy. By requiring utlities to buy gradually increasing amounts of renewable power, the Standard creates a market opportunity, making developers compete to supply renewable energy at the lowest price.

		Renewable energy is putting people to work in good-paying manufacturing and construction jobs. It is diversifying our energy supply and tapping American energy sources.				Renewable energy is cleaning up our air and water, improving our health, and protecting our climate for future generations.
		Renewable energy is bringing prosperity to rural America, creating jobs, increasing the tax base, and funding vital government services.				Renewable energy is good for consumers because it reduces our exposure to volatile fuel prices, diversifies our energy mix, and saves valuable natural gas for use as a heating fuel.
